ICE HARVESTING EXHIBIT AT THE COUNTY FAIR

The societies' exhibit at the Oswego County Fair was on the theme of Ice Harvesting.  The inspiration for the exhibit was the gift of an ice plow by Melvin Dunham, lifelong area resident.  The plow was used in West Monroe to harvest ice from local ponds.  The exhibit also includes ice tongs, pole for floating ice, ice box, ice saw, boot type ice skates, clamp-on ice skates and a sled.

One of the features of the exhibit was a five-minute video which explains how ice was harvested.  The video includes footage taken at the Howell Living History Farm ice harvest in New Jersey.  The farm used one of their horses to pull our plow and show how it cut the ice.

The exhibit is now set up at the Historical Society and the public is invited to stop by to see the exhibit and view the video.

We continued our winning tradition by taking third place in the history and heritage category.
